Well I say if a member of our Site community has something positive to shout about … let’s celebrate it! Growing for competition might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for those who like to take part it can be a serious business, and the various categories are hotly contested. Over the past few years Colin has won more awards in local agricultural shows than most of us could shake a stick at, and this year he has set his sights once again on the Southowram Show (I can almost hear the groan from the other competitors). Well done to him, and long may his success continue. Here are a couple of photos from some of his triumphs ….

Best set of onions in Halifax!
Watch out Southowram! HERE COMES COLIN!
Your clothes rail will be put to good use when I discover how to grow beans.
It’s been a good day for our first stall of the year and the weather has stayed fine and dry, if a bit breezy. It’s been our first opportunity to put our new gazebo to use and the whole event seemed to go very well. Aside from raising some valuable funds for the site, we had a very enjoyable time! It’s been particularly nice to meet members of the public who show a great deal of interest and enthusiasm for what we do. Thank you to all those who got involved in organising, publicising, running the stall – and of course those who donated and those who bought! Keep up the good work, and encourage others to join in. The next stall will be held on Saturday 20th June.
Setting up the stall
The new Muck bay has been christened with its first load. God bless her and all that sails into her!
The new muck bay is in use
Today has seen a giant step forward for the new muck bay project. Thanks to those nice people at Readymix who have generously donated ALL the concrete FREE OF CHARGE(!), the floor has been laid and completion of the project is in sight. Some people will think we’re a bit strange, but let’s admit it, we all love muck, and muck will make our community all the happier. The new bay will be a great asset to us, and Readymix deserve a huge THANK YOU from us. We also owe our gratitude to those individuals, particularly Malcolm and Mark, who have helped in its construction – and might even have the honour of having a muck bay named after them!
Last month Mark demonstrated how to dig out those pesky big roots
… and the job’s a good-un.
Smooth it out with Malcolm’s super home-made tamping board!
All prepared awaiting delivery of concrete
Readymix to the rescue! But it’s a tight squeeze.
Let the pouring begin …
Come on Malcolm rake faster!
It’s starting to fill up
Here – let a pro show you how
Just about full ..
The last bit ..
